Cotton Hall Theater Colquitt Georgia Presents Swamp Gravy

Cotton Hall Theater was originally a cotton warehouse, now home to all of the productions put on by the Colquitt/Miller Arts Council, including Swamp Gravy, Georgia’s Official Folk Life Play. The Cotton Hall Theater is located just one block from the square in downtown Colquitt, Cotton Hall Theater is an easy walk from fine shopping and dining options. The box office and Storytelling Museum are open during regular weekday business hours, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, as well as during productions in Cotton Hall. Call ahead.
The 284-seat in the Cotton Hall Theater is made up of more than three stages and is a one-of-a-kind theater. The Cotton Hall Theater plays are performed all around the the room to make you feel like you are a part of the action. Come visit Cotton Hall Theater and experience the magic that happens here.The first performance of Swamp Gravy was in the Miller County Elementary School auditorium. It was originally planned for one weekend. The performance went so well there was a second show scheduled for the next weekend. After that Miller County has made it a tradition to perform this show. They began looking for much larger area of the play to be held. A local man offered to loan the old cotton gin. After a complete make over of the cotton gin the first show was held in 1944. Shortly after the name of the cotton gin was changed to Cotton Hall. The once dirt floor is now brick and cement, the loading dock and old Ford truck are now part of the staging. There is now have a fully equipped facility that maintains its rustic flavor. Now offering state-of-the-art lighting, wonderful set design, and multi-level staging. The design of the theatre is very unique and makes every seat in Cotton Hall a good one. Upon entrance into Cotton Hall, you will find the Museum of Southern Cultures. Also has a concession area that is designed to be suggestive of a café that was once on the town square.
