Upcoming Decatur TX Auction Bringing Together Two Veterans Organizations for a Veteran Fundraiser
Decatur, TX – Saturday, November 30, 2019
Thanksgiving is nearly upon us. A time to gather together and take account of the many things in our lives for which we are thankful. A Decatur, TX veterans organization is on that list of thankfulness. Valor Ranch in Wise County is on a mission to help some individuals our Nation is thankful for by Empowering our Nation’s Sheroes.
Keri Wilcox, Valor Ranch Founder
First of all, meet Keri Wilcox. Valor Ranch is her brainchild. Keri is a Gold Star Wife to late husband Tom who served our country in the Vietnam War. She is as well the mother, sister, daughter and granddaughter of veterans. Teaming up with Veteran Service Organizations and the community S.H.E.R.O.E.S was born – Serving, Honoring, Empowering and Restoring Our Esteemed Servicewomen. Simply put, SHEROES are women regarded as heroes.
In fact, Valor Ranch steps in to help these SHEROES transition back into civilian life through many programs offering a holistic approach. All on the grounds of the Ranch where SHEROES stay for a year during their transition. This is done in several different ways.
Some Ways Valor Ranch is Helping Veterans
First is by providing a Safe Place. SHEROES can gather together in the company of fellow veteran sisters and build one another up. They listen to and inspire one another. In an environment with others who have been through and experienced what they have and still do experience. An example of this is Sister Chat.
Second is through animal therapy. Animals are so therapeutic in helping with many healing processes. Especially canine and equine therapy. Both of which Valor Ranch offers. While caring for the horses through feeding and grooming and communicating, the SHEROES learns the building blocks to communication, leadership and relationships. The companionship of canines forms special bonds. Dogs can ease stress and fear and can even prevent the possibility of substance abuse. Dogs tend to understand everything we feel and experience without argument or judgement. This emotional bond can be beneficial during the healing process.
Third is community engagement. Community service allows them to get out in the public and give of themselves. Many times this is a stepping stone to finding work while regaining a feel for civilian life again. The Ambassador/Mentor program allows an opportunity to visit various events. At these events ambassadors share about their Ranch journey and how the programs help and empower them.
Still other programs Valor Ranch offers is budgeting, cooking and gardening.
Valor Ranch and USVET.fund Teaming Up for an Auction
As a matter of fact, this and another veteran organization will be teaming together to give back to veterans. USVET.fund will be conducting a fundraiser auction at the Ranch on Saturday, November 30th.
Correspondingly, USVET.fund helps our Nation’s heroes. USVET.fund teams with veterans and veteran owned businesses throughout the country consigning their hand made work for fundraiser auctions. Many of the items available for bidding at their auctions were made by the very hands of those who fought for our freedoms. These veterans make these items either as a means of therapy, as a hobby, or as a way to supplement their income. Then they consign their work with USVET.fund who in turn places them in auctions that help benefit various other veteran organizations.
Therefore, make plans now to be at Valor Ranch in Decatur, TX on Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 11am-5pm. This is the first event and Keri hopes there will be more in the future. The family friendly event is open to the public and will consist of: live music, food, bounce house and the live auction featuring Myers Jackson America’s Auctioneer and America’s Auction Team. More details to come, so stay posted!
