VMF-112 was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation (US) for August 7 – December 9, 1942 with the 1st Marine Division on Guadalcanal Commanded by then Major General A. A. Vandegrift
Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 112, was originally activated as VMF-112, at San Diego, California on March 1, 1942. Being deployed to Henderson Field on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands in their Grumman F4F Wildcats, the Wolfpack joined the Cactus Air Force with Marine Aircraft Group 11. On 31 January 1943 Jefferson J. DeBlanc (MOH) downed five enemy aircraft in a single mission, and was awarded the Medal of Honor for this action. In recognition of its valor and its contributions to victory during its service on Guadalcanal, This unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation (US) for August 7 – December 9, 1942.

Memorabilia of General A.A. Vandegrift (MEDAL of HONOR) includes a an Officers Flag (3 Star General). A 48 Star Flag in personal possession of General Vandegrift. An Original Photo of Major General Lewis Burwell “Chesty” Puller. Plus dozens of other Artifacts that belonged to General Vandegrift. Come personally inspect these iconic moments in time.

General Vandegrift was in Command of the 1st Marine Division and led Marines to victory in its first ground offensive of the war, the Battle of Guadalcanal.
Vandegrift later served as the 18th Commandant of the Marine Corps. He was the first four-star general on active duty in the Marine Corps.
Puller is the most decorated Marine in American history. He was awarded 5 Navy Crosses and one Distinguished Service Cross. With 6 crosses, Puller is second behind Eddie Rickenbacker for citations of the nation’s second-highest military award for valor
The 48-star flag is the flag that soldiers and sailors fought for during World War II. It is the flag to which children, mothers, and wives pledged their allegiance at home while their loved ones went into battle overseas. It is the flag that the Marines raised over Iwo Jima in 1945. This one belonged to Lt.General A.A. Vandegrift when he was Commandant at Eighth and I, Washington D.C.
Alexander Archer Vandegrift was born on March 13, 1887, in Charlottesville, Virginia, where his father of Dutch descent was an architect and contractor. Vandegrift was of Dutch, English and Swedish ancestry, all of which had been in North America since the 1600s.
From a Marine to a future Marine. Later in years Col. Archie Vandegrift fought in the Battle Of Iwo Jima.
