Interestingly, Senator Weatherford never set foot in the town that bears his name. In 1858 Weatherford was incorporated. The post office came in 1859.

Settlers began arriving in Weatherford Texas in the mid 1800’s and ended up enduring Indian attacks for over 20 years. Then in 1880 the railroad arrived to much applause. The Santa Fe Depot was built in 1908 and today is home of the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce. The town newspaper, the “Weatherford Democrat”, was born in 1895. One hundred and twenty-six years later the paper keeps the community informed.

Today, Weatherford Texas has a population of 36,997 and consists of more than 18,000 acres. The historic Parker County courthouse, built in 1886, is in Weatherford in the center of the county. Additionally, Weatherford Texas is known as the Peach Capital of Texas. Annually, thousands attend the Weatherford Peach Festival to take in all things peach. The city also produces watermelon and pecans.

Furthermore, Mary Martin, famous for portraying the character of Peter Pan, was born and raised in Weatherford Texas. Martin is the mother of Larry Hagman aka J.R. Ewing of the television series “Dallas”.
