Frisco Gold Star Family Memorial Monument with Woody Williams

 

Frisco Gold Star Family Memorial Monument with Woody Williams. Indeed many were in attendance for the dedication in Frisco on Thursday, May 13th at 11:00 AM. The monument remembers the Gold Star Families in Frisco. As well as their loved ones who while serving in the military gave their last full measure of devotion to our nation.

 

Woody Williams Foundation Mission

 

To begin with, Hershel “Woody” Williams is the last living Medal of Honor recipient from World War II. As well as a survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima. He and his Woody Williams Foundation serves Gold Star Families in Texas and nationwide. Truly they are on a mission of placing memorial monuments in cities and communities across the country.

Likewise, their mission statement is: “to honor, recognize and serve Gold Star Families and the legacy of their Loved Ones who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.”  Currently, there are 86 monuments in 160 active communities amongst all 50 states. With an additional 74 monuments in progress. In fact, Frisco’s Gold Star Families Memorial Monument is the 81st in the country.

 

Making the Monument a Reality

 

Furthermore, leading the Frisco program are Noe De Leon and Chuck Wright. Working for over 2 years to make a monument a reality in Frisco. Attending was Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney. As well as Frisco City Councilman John Keating. In addition to four Gold Star Families. Not to mention area veterans and organizations, and citizens.

Indeed the Gold Star Families memorial monument is made of granite. However, the inscriptions and photos make it a cherished piece for the community and families. The front side of the monument’s four pieces has:

  • Homeland
  • Family
  • Patriot
  • Sacrifice

Additionally, each piece has images such as Frisco’s water tower, the flag raising, and military emblems. Then on the back side of the monument’s pieces is the following “Gold Star Families Memorial Monument a tribute to Gold Star Families and Relatives who sacrificed a Loved One for our Freedom”. In addition, the Frisco monument also includes a granite cutout statue of Woody saluting the monument.

 

Monument Dedication Ceremony

 

The dedication ceremony went as follows:

  • Pledge of Allegiance – Hannah Hanson – Gold Star Daughter
  • Introduction of Special Guests – Chuck Wright
