Graduate Personal Property Appraiser
The professional designation awarded by the NAA Education Institute to qualified property appraisers who meet the educational and experiential requirements of the Institute and who adhere to a strict code of ethics and standards of practice. In order to be designated with the GPPA, auctioneer-scholars are required to complete 35 classroom hours, a detailed written appraisal report and proof of at least two affidavits of appraisals. This designation also requires 24 hours of continuing education every three years.
A graduate personal property appraiser is a distinctive professional designation offered through the National Auction Association. What this means is a person can conduct personal property appraisal and the designation tells everyone that that certain individual who has received the GPPA designation has accumulated classroom hours, performed actual appraisal, and gained mindful instruction by other professionals in the industry. Auctioneers have been long time appraisers for chattel or commonly known as person property. Personal property is not the same as real property and cannot be confused with real estate. A personal property appraiser has the skills and knowledge to evaluate hundreds of different types of items. Such appraisals are necessary for bank loans, estate evaluations, tax purposes, or simply because someone may hire a personal property appraiser so that they can understand the value of any distinctive item.
Take a look at a few items that could warrant an appraisal. Diamond rings, a custom collector car such as an 1957 Chevy or maybe a Shelby, maybe a Colt Revolver from 1865. What about an 1865 $20 gold coin or maybe even a 1911? It is easy to say that why not just get a dealer to give the evaluation and yes that can happen and it happens a lot. But what if you want an official third party estimate from a person who has no personal or business interest in that item. It may behoove you to hire a graduated personal property appraiser. The GPPA certification appraiser is a member of the National Auction Association and holds to and subscribe to the code of ethics. This assures you that auctioneer or appraiser will deliver you a personal property appraisal with honesty and integrity.
