R. Lee Ermey Memorial Classic at Bear Creek Country Club in Dallas, TX.
Golfing to Feed Homeless Veterans
Another 9/11 event took place with the sole purpose of raising money for veterans. Money to pay for those veterans who may not have the cash to sit down at a fine meal. Much less one served at a fast food restaurant.
In fact the iconic world famous Marines Corps Drill Instructor R. Lee Ermey golf classic was certainly a battle to raise thousands and thousand of dollars. In efforts to accomplish the mission of feeding homeless veterans in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Consequently, 20-30 teams played 18 rounds of golf as part of this fundraising event.
Raising Funds One Hole at a Time
As a matter of fact, leading the way was the 12th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps. Sergeant Major Harold Overstreet, Ken Waters, Chuck Wright, Jack Ermey and counltess volunteers prepared, executed and successfully performed a mission carrying out the duties and the tasks of aiding someone who is in a position in which they cannot feed themselves.
Yes, the golfers were eager for a hole-in-one or, in fact, more hopeful to make par. As one of the photographers along side Rick Irving and Megan Miller Cruz, I circled at the event pavilion as well as making trips around the 18 holes. All in an attempt to capture that iconic shot.
One Goal in Common for the Teams
Moreover, we were able to capture the faces, the smiles withing the friendships and the humor set forth in a espirit d Corps … Yes everybody want to win just as a team shot under 17 Parr. More importantly, in the forefront of the minds are those attending with the soldiers duty.
Furthermore, many times during the day I heard the slogan “One Team One Fight”. And if you’ve never served in the services and you are not a veteran, the simple meaning is if you put on a uniform and are now or have ever been a member of the Armed Forces of the United States of America, we are one team. And if we have to fight you it will be one fight. No matter how many battles it takes we will be focused and will steadfastly remain one team. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, reserves, first responders, police, fire fighters, civil servants alike we are one team.
Help Veteran Organization in Any Way You Can
Indeed the amazing leadership within the ranks of veteran organizations in Dallas Texas is emerging with those who faithfully or willingly carry out the goals to accomplish missions in support directly or indirectly of others.
Therefore I plead with you…the next time you see anything listed in support of a veteran such as:
- Karalyn Martin who is a finalist for Ms.Veteran America
- the R. Lee Ermey Golf Tournament
- or a fundriaser for the Hershel Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation
give your support if you can. If you can’t give your two dollars, remember, you may be able to buy a hamburger at a fast food restaurant for a dollar. Just a few more dollars to the multiples of veterans who do not have the luxury of fast food. Indeed your support by attending an event where making a donation online is as valuable as standing in front of the line to be the first person giving from your heart.
Please take the time to scroll through the photos and act as if you were there laughing and smiling as a golf ball flew down the fairway.
