Camping in Texas, Mark Donahew Land Specialist
Camping in Texas, Mark Donahew land specialist. This day and age, with everyone so busy running around in this technology filled world, we have drifted very far from nature. In fact, the old pastime of camping seems to have faded out. However, Texas is just a really great place to get back to that pastime.
Texas State Parks
Camping in Texas can be very enjoyable! As a matter of fact, the state has made it very convenient with so many parks to camp in. It really is very easy to go camping in the Lone Star State without driving far. Indeed there are many parks around the various lakes across Texas that are set up for camping. Typically there will be a breeze coming off of the lake that makes the camping more pleasant. Of course there is a fire area as well.
Texas National Parks
Camping in Texas isn’t just around lakes though. Guadalupe Mountains National Park is a beautiful area for anyone wanting to go camping in Texas. Parks such as Guadalupe have restrictions on open fires but allow small fuel stoves for cooking. In west Texas it’s very dry and it’s very easy to go from camping in Texas to burning up Texas – so exercise caution! While swimming and fishing are popular around lakes, hiking up to Guadalupe Peak, the tallest point in Texas, is more in line of what you would do in the Guadalupe Mountains.
If the mountains are not your thing and you want more water, Texas has plenty of shoreline on the gulf coast and camping on the beach listening to the waves roll in can be very enjoyable. The kids can run up and down the beach during the day and sit around the fire at night roasting hot dogs just like you did as a kid.
Relaxing Across the State
Aside from the coast, lakes, and various parks, another place to take the family during the off season is the deer lease. Most hunters in Texas use a deer lease and outside of hunting season they do not utilize the lease so why not take the family to the lease and run around on the property. Camping in Texas can be done in so many places and is just really a great way to get away from the city lights and relax a bit as well as teaching the kids something new.
