Living in Granbury, Tx

by Mark Donahew Real Estate Agent

Living in Granbury says Mark Donahew Real Estate Agent, is like stepping back in time. The quaint historic town square and surrounding buildings, some dating back to 1880, have been restored and registered as historic landmarks.  During Christmas time locals and tourists can take a Candle Light Tour of Historic Homes. In addition to the town square full of shopping, dining and museums, Lake Granbury and the City Beach area draws visitors from all over the country.  According to USA Today, Granbury is the fastest growing “small town” in America.  The 4th of July fireworks show was even featured on national television.

Lake Granbury

Lake Granbury is a major reason to move to Granbury/Hood county.  The lake is one of three lakes in Texas formed by damming the Brazos River.   Lake Granbury boasts 103 miles of shoreline for recreational and lake-front living. Lake Granbury has 5 public boat ramps, two fishing piers, and 4 overnight excellent camping areas. The Granbury City Beach provides a boat ramp, public swimming, and picnicking. Lake Granbury is on the Brazos River in downtown Granbury, off US Highway 377 about 35 miles southwest of Fort Worth, Texas.

Mark Donahew Real Estate Agent loves history like

Davy Crockett and John Wilkes Booth

Granbury is rich in history and folklore.  Davy Crockett’s wife, Elizabeth, settled in Hood County in 1853 following the Texas Revolution against Mexico. Crockett, as well as other Alamo participants, received 640 acres in land grants. The Crockett family received land in what is now Hood County. Elizabeth Crockett is buried in Acton State Historic Site,[8] the smallest state park in Texas. A large statue of Elizabeth Crockett marks her gravesite. Several of Crockett’s descendants still reside in Hood County.

According to Granbury legend, John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated President Lincoln, moved to Hood County and assumed the name of John St. Helen. A store on the historic town square, St. Helen’s, is named after him.

Granbury Festivals and Shopping

Granbury has many fun festivals year-round for the family. Granbury’s Old Fashioned 4th of July Festival, featuring one of the top-rated fireworks shows in America, is a huge draw. People can enjoy the show from their boats, the city beach, or from any number of areas in town.  Other festivals include the Harvest Moon Festival of Arts, Granbury Founder Day Jubilee, the Wine Walk, Memorial Day celebration, Christmas Parade of Lights, and more.

Looking for antiques? Granbury has many stores for collectors to visit. In addition to the boutique shops and locally owned stores, Granbury does have larger chain stores for shopping.  However, since Granbury is only 30  minutes from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, residents have just a short trip to malls, concerts, dining, museums, and theaters. Living in Granbury, Tx says Mark Donahew Real Estate Agent can be a place to find excellent residential opportunities for lake living.

Family Friendly Community

Mark says, Living in this quaint small town has numerous advantages. Families can raise their children in a community with no gangs or serious violent crime. Granbury ISD ranks in the top 1/3 of schools in Texas and offers a variety of programs for high school students and has a great record of students receiving scholarships and attending college upon graduation.  You are part of a community in Granbury.

In Granbury, residents feel like part of a community that know each other and support each other in difficult times. There are numerous stories of the community coming together to help each other like after a house fire, a child with cancer whose family needed financial assistance, and so on.  The community rallies to help those in need. You walk into any store or restaurant and people are very friendly.

Special Home of the Week

This custom built 2-story home with its Greco-Roman columns in the dining area, open concept, and in-ground pool is nestled in the back of a quiet gated community with a private boat ramp, Timber Cove, with views of Lake Granbury without the lakefront price.
