Indeed family and friends were in attendance for the event. Not only were they celebrating Fiske’s life with stories of their memories. The event was as well remembering the 75th anniversary of Fiske’s liberation from a POW camp in Tokyo, Japan.

Additionally, during the evening Donna Snow of the hit reality TV show Texas Flip and Move took the stage to present a Retired American Flag. Reciting a poem with eloquent poise and pride prior to presenting the flag. In fact, the poem which Donna was reciting is written by Melissa Bird. Melissa runs the Retired Flag Project.

Indeed this incredible organization receives retired American and POW flags from fire and police departments, VFWs, and American Legions. Melissa and her team rework and restore the flags with delicate care and respect. Then cleaning, photographing, folding, numbering, and sending the flags to a veteran to cherish.

Following the recital of the poem, 2020 Ms Veteran America finalist and United States Marine Corps veteran Karalyn Martin read a poem about the POW flag. The direct connection between the flag and the words in the poem cut straight to the hearts of all in attendance.

Fiske Hanley’s Son & Daughter Receive a Retired & Restored Flag

Next event emcee Myers Jackson was asking that Fiske’s son and daughter join Donna and Karalyn by the stage. At which time Donna presented Fiske’s daughter with a retired and restored American flag.  While Karalyn Martin presented Fiske’s son Tom with a retired and restored POW flag. The emotion on the faces of Tom and his sister spoke louder than any words. Conveying to the audience just how meaningful and sentimental those flags will be to the each of them.

Additional Restored Flag Presentations

However, the presenting was far from over. You see, recently Denton’s American Legion Post 71 underwent a renovation. Contributing to that was a queen of renovation, Donna Snow. For her contribution, efforts and hard work, she was presented a restored American flag which was retired from that American Legion Post 71. Presenting her with the flag was Mark Donahew. Resulting in overwhelming appreciation and gratitude from Donna.

Still yet, the presenting was not done. Navy and Vietnam Veteran EA Rex King and his sweet four-legged companion Ronan sat listening to the reciting of the poems. At times during the evening Rex could be seen petting his precious friend. Ronan’s tail wagging while Rex was receiving a restored American flag was priceless. Rex’s flag as well had been retired from American Legion Post 71 in Denton.
